I don't remember exactly but i think Saudi Arabia did the same thing with Blackberry.

I heard it on one of the SecurityNow shows.

Blackberry's encryption is truly uncrackable. The Government could not read texts / listen to conversations of the Blackberry users so they said "Give us access to this data or we will ban Your services from our country." The only place where the Blackberry texts / calls can be seen as unencrypted are the Blackberry servers. After many hours of negotiations to avoid a loss of a costumer Blackberry gave the Government 3 servers that will be sufficient to serve to the entire Saudi Arabia. This way Blackberry users in this country can be read / listened too...

I think the correct term is Voluntary Compulsion, or the same tactic used by the Mafia, and other identifies.. Wink Sad
