Hi and welcome!
What does it mean "I installed in video safe mode"? I can't understand it.
Did you try "safe mode" of the booting options?

From the command line, try pcc. From there you should at least be able to set it to the vesa driver. You can then use reboot to boot into the GUI.

i did as you said then selected display, it gave me this message; the following packages need to be installed task-x11. I selected OK, and received this message; could not install task-x11.

Can you still get into the GUI by choosing VESA driver (via pcc)? If you can, then you can run a full update from Synaptic, and if it's still necessary, install the task-x11 package, too.

I don't understand why you can't get there, so let's take it from the top. At the boot menu, choose "safe mode". When you get to the command line, type in pcc and hit enter. When the config menu comes up, choose Display and then scroll way down to xorg/vesa. After that's selected and you get back to the command line, type in reboot and hit enter again. You should be able to boot into the GUI then, although you may have slightly wacky resolution. If you can, then update everything via Synaptic right away. So, is that what you tried already?

yes, except when i go to display the xorg/vesa does not come up, a pop up opens telling me that i need to install task-x11, i click ok and another pop up appears saying it could not install task-x11.

It seems to me that task-x11 should have been installed with everything else from CD. If it were me, I would make sure the Md5sum was correct and try again. Then, if you have trouble with installing, let's talk about that. Also i wish to thank you for your patience and assistance, im learning as i go.
lol - aren't we all?

i was going to suggest that because i don't see a reason for the system to ask x11 when you know you have it try with a cd-rw at 4x so you can test more without wasting cds the model you have is not new, it should work out of the box, just as any other not that new intel card searching on this page http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1526/en/om/specs.htmare you sure you have the intel model or the ati model? that ati model is very problematic on linux

well, when i pull up the device manager and go to display adapters it says, mobile intel(R) 965 express chipset. I downloaded pclinuxos again and burned it slow. but still have the same issues, even tried a different desktop. And i have used this CD on other computers with no issues.
