I'm still wondering where you can get version .8 for linux,

The Dropbox Experimental Forum Build - 0.8.8 is here
Thanks for the link. It looks interesting, and I started to give it a whirl, but then I read some comments and decided to wait a while longer. Wink

It's always better to wait until Tex deems it ready anyway. I do get antsy sometimes...

Any Bugs in site?

« Reply #31 on: April 28, 2011, 04:40:00 AM »

This is an older thread but very relevant to my little problem.

I have installed dropbox a few weeks ago from synaptic. Now I have the dropbox folder in the directory tree.  I have two small pictures in the public folder and want to get a link for use in a post.

Right click on file and the menu shows no sign of an option as shown  in this topic.

Code:
[root@localhost gert]# locate dropbox.des
/home/gert/.config/autostart/dropbox.desktop
/usr/share/applications/dropbox.desktop
[root@localhost gert]#

Having installed via the dolphin download services, is that not all I am supposed to do?  I was expecting a "dropbox" reference would show in the services but that is not the case?

What is it I am missing out on?

Do the Dropbox options show in the Dolphin Services list?
If there are they enabled?

A few posts in this thread mention installing it from its downloaded location using the command .......

$ ./install-it.sh

There should be an install-it.sh file there to run.

No, not showing in services, that surprises me.

Again: via download new service I found a dropbox item and it installs, at least the the button now says uninstall (Have tried the uninstall/install too)

I expected it would show in services list, but no

Fully udated KDE   Grin

Looking into the ./install-it.sh, have done an updatedb and tried locate, nix so far. This was why I dropped the earlier attempt

Thanks for the link, if GRC has concern that is good enough for me. Saves me looking into the security aspects which I should have done first.

I will just forget about dropbox.

Maybe I am missing something, but here is what I understand ......

Dropbox encrypts the files on its server, and claimed they had no means avialble to decrypt and view the contents?
.....  and they were believed it seems ....

Personally I see no reason not to use Dropbox.
If there is anything I do not wish to share, or do not want to be available to anyone else, I can store it on Dropbox, pre-encrypted with my own encryption.
I have not had that need to date.

Why anyone would assume that data stored on someone else's server is in any way private or secure is quite beyond me; but I guess there will always be those who believe the salesmen ......

Resurrecting an old thread ........

New install ...... and attempted to install the service menu for Dolphin .......  the initial auto install failed, so uninstalled,  deleted the extracted directory and extracted again.
Installed via the install-it.sh script.

Attempting to use the service menus gives an error ......  depending on which one is attempted, the error can be  failed to fine kde4-config or failed to find klipper and maybe others.

For some reason it is not 'seeing' its dependencies ........

Any ideas? .......

You get an error like that when it can't find the "sqlite3" command.  So you need to ensure that sqlite3-tools is installed.
