I am rebuilding my system. Installed on a clean disk, PCLinux 2010-1. Everything went according to specs. Video worked well, Sound system was active. After adjusting some parameters on the video specs I updated the system thru synaptic and once finished rebooted the system. After the system started the system was loading up and this is when events went hay wired. On coming to the stage where X system loads up nothing but error and then all died.

Somehow when I updated the system some routine/program got changed/overwritten.

So I went back to the next version PCLInux2010-7 and all went well. So far my only problem is no sound when I play a video. TV works fine, Radio no sound. To date I hesitate to do a global update.

Has anyone encountered this problem with Global updates?

Is it possible you saved those changes after the update? Try to recall it. Smiley

As for the sound give some more details, please.

Good news...All went well with the updates ...No anomelies to report. AS for the sound I tinkered with ALsamixer switches and now we truly have a multimedia system. The disaster with 2010-1 happenned after I had done a global update.

It is good to explain your feeling of solving your problem and mark your thread as "Solved" for the others to look/see what was happening. Cheesy
