So i have been cruising along using PCLOS, and everything has been working pretty smoothly. So then this evening i needed to scan something, which I figured wouldn't be a problem; i'll just use my hp all-in-one that i have been printing things on fine for a while now. I didn't know what program to use, so i fished around and found some scan utilities under the graphics section; cool. i try and run one, and it says i don't have a scanner attached even though my all-in-one is turned on. weird. i try another program. nothing. i try another, and all it does is splash, and disappear. great... just what i needed at 1:30AM... so i keep trying, change a couple settings and it still won't recognize my  scanner. so i do some searching, and come across this: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/pclinuxos.html, which i thought would help since i noticed my HPLIP was only on version 3.9.10, while the newest version was 3.10.6. However i take one look at that list of junk i would have to do, and decide no way...not this late at night.

So i decide to just print up another piece of paper i needed to, and lo and behold... it doesn't print! Angry
Now im kinda curiously frustrated that my printer is misbehaving...should I reinstall HPLIP, should i just reboot the system...No, I decide to double check that it's plugged in...yea...wasn't plugged in the whole time lol

So I plug it in and print my paper successfully, yay! i try that scanner program again, works without me having to even set anything up. couldn't have been any easier, unless i would have remembered to plug my printer back in after needing to use my thumb drive last week.

That reminds me of the story of the guy who phoned the computer help line because it wouldn't work during a power cut.

I beleive The HP package in teh repo should find everything...scanner, printer, etc.  Just make sure you have the scanner in your groups.

Perhaps a usb hub would be a good edition, so you wouldn't have to un-plug and remember to plug in your equipment.

It's a testimonial to PCLOS on how everything just works, as long as everything is plugged in.  Cheesy

Maybe that should be the new slogan: The impossible we do straight away. Miracles take longer.
