Somewhere in the last few updates, the procedure to set up samba got broken.

Sometime in the past for KDE4, the procedure was ConfDesktop>Network>Sharing>Samba.  Then the root password was requested.

That no longer works, I see the window with the information, but it's all greyed out and no way to get into it, the root password is not requested.

I hadn't thought of logging out and back as root.  That would work.  For those of us who  had always done it the other way, it was just broken.  Nothing wrong with having to log out and in as root, just unexpected for us old timers.

Another way to skin that cat is to use a terminal:

kdesu systemsettings

After you enter the root password, it may take a while for the window to open, but when it does you'll be able to edit those Samba settings.

I usually set up Samba in PCC, btw - not so many confusing choices. Smiley
