How do I get an Apple-like taskbar? I don't even know where to start. I have PCLOS 2010.07 KDE fully updated. How do I get like a floating zooming curved taskbar like on a AppleOS desktop? Maybe even some other effects as well. I have no effects now. I have a ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 2600 discrete graphics on my laptop. Every attempt I've ever made 2007, 2009 & now 2010.07 at Compiz/Fusion has failed. I've gone so far as to uninstall every program that is a part of Compiz/Fusion. Is it possible? What do I install. Any step by step would be appreciated.
Btw I read the pinned topic, "Running Compiz-Fusion with an ATI card". And don't understand it.

You have to run Cairo Dock. More precisely: you have to run it at login, which means that you have to create a .desktop file for it in /home/erik/.kde4/Autostart. "Configure Your Desktop" can do it for you; look under "System Administration"-->"Startup and Shutdown"-->"Autostart". Or you can do it manually. My ~/.kde4/Autostart/cairo-dock.desktop looks like this: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Type=Application Exec=cairo-dock -o Icon=cairo-dock.svg #DocPath= Terminal=false
Name=GLX-Dock (Cairo-Dock with OpenGL) Name[fr]=GLX-Dock (Cairo-Dock avec OpenGL)
GenericName=Multi-purpose Dock GenericName[fr]=Dock multi-usage Categories=System;
The problem is that running Cairo Dock with OpenGL may trash the display of half of your media players (including Skype) -- unless you prefix the command that starts them with "export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 &&". For instance VLC doesn't need this. Kaffeine does.

If you are using KDE, I'm pretty sure you can use the Daisy widget....

Thanks. But configuring this is giving me some problems. Only way I found Cairo was through the Run box.
How do I get Icons from the taskbar to Cairo dock? How do I remove the black background? The dock shakes sometimes & the mini penguin flashes & multiplys itself. The WiFi & Battery icons are missing. I tried through Cairo to resolve these problems. No go so far.

Cairo depends on Compiz, are you running Compiz? need to set 3d but I have had no luck using ATI Radeon Video, I finally bought an Nvidia Card for my Desktop. Good luck Edit: Ok, I want the Daisy Widget http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Daisy?content=102077

Right clicking the dock presents you a menu where you find several items, there you can configure the dock and change the defaul theme among others. By the way I only get transparency using Opengl

I'm having to start Cairo dock every time I boot up. I'm thinking I'm SOL because of my ATI card.

Cairo depends on Compiz,
It doesn't really. But if you want it to look good, you have to run it with OpenGL, i.e. you have to start it with the -o option. If you don't you'll get the ugly black background zapjb was complaining about.

What you can also do is install gnome-do from the repos and then under preferences, change the appearance to 'docky'. It's a pretty awesome dock, if you need one.
