Have been updating at least once a week.  This is a DuoCore, 2.4 Ghz machine with 2 Gb of RAM but only a nVidia GEForce 6200 card using the nVidia GEForce 6100 driver.  i was able to use the desktop effects a couple of weeks ago, but installed LXDE and used it for a while until i had to come back to KDE since i could never get the keyboard to switch between English/Spanish like i can in KDE.

Now, when i try to use KDE destop effects the computer freezes and i need to reboot in -- you guessed it -- LXDE, and select No 3D Effects and log back in in KDE.  i've tried several times to 3D effects but each time the compu freezes.  Is there a difference between enabling 3D effects in "Configure Your Desktop" and "Configure Your Computer, Hardware, Configure 3D effects, Compiz Fusion"?  Maybe this is where i'm going wrong...

Any help would be appreciated and have a great evening!  Smiley

Hi!

I remember I visited your thread about Spanish KB layout in LXDE with not much help from me. Embarrassed You didn't continue and there were no details on the problem.

It should be common and easy task to solve.
If you don't mind I could try to help you with what I know there. It can be done in LiveCD LXDE session if you haven't it installed on HD.

uncleV!  How nice to see you in the KDE forums, too!!

Yes, you are right.  i tried to provide as much information as possible -- but it was only an issue of setting up something as simple as a dual keyboard!  i spent like a week on it, so don't feel bad if it didn't work out.  Maybe some day it will work.

But now, on to bigger and better things!  i got to thinking last night -- always recommended in cases like this -- and decided to try Configure Your Desktop again.  Workspace Appearance and Behavior, Desktop Effects, selected Enable Desktop Effects, logged out and back in again, and have recovered my beautiful KDE 4.5 desktop.  It's a little slow, but i imagine that is due to my poor graphics card.

Anyway, uncleV, thanks a million for all your help and i'm really happy to be back in KDE again.  Yeah PCL!

Have a great morning!  Smiley
