Run a PCLINUXOS live cd. If it boots up and all is well then you can eliminate some problems.

Another thing to do is run system diagnostics from the BIOS.

You have an unusual STOP : message blue screen

Usually, I have found what you are describing to be a memory or hard drive problem. The hard drive may have been working fine but has a few bad sectors and on the new install it is causing it to hang up.

All this is speculation of course. Not being hands on there with the computer.

You can try some of my suggestions and eliminate some things and then go from there, either way.

I am going offline shortly so I will not be able to offer any other suggestions.

Good luck to you. Hope you get it working. Maybe someone else will be able to chime in with some help.

http://support.dell.com/support/

Remove all partitions and create a partition with the install CD, or,
scratched or not original CD, missing HDD drivers and/or driver floppy.
Search on Windows fora please.

The CD is fine I used it couple minutes before I used it on the Dell optiplex sx260. I also check it for errors and scratches I even check the ram, the Hard drive works fine because it shows up and even lets me partition it. The only thing its not letting me format. keeps saying updating after I select for formating the drive is says updating as if its searching for something then shows a blue screen of death.......

ahci should relate to ATA hard disk, while ohci/sata to sata- ive got those options on my laptop.

other than that, win xp install with sp1,2 or 3 has the sata drivers, while the initial doesnt, maybe the clue is there, if the hardware is ok
