also am getting this error message saying:

asc3550.sys - address F8973698 BASE AT F8973698, DATESTAMP 00000000

Sounds like an excellent reason to install one of the PCLinuxOS flavors instead.

Remove all partitions and create a partition with the install CD, or,
scratched or not original CD, missing HDD drivers and/or driver floppy.
Search on Windows fora please.

Have you already eliminated it as a hardware problem?

If so, are you using the Dell restore disk that came with the computer?

If the answer to the second question is no, please tell us what you are using to re-install.

Did you try to use the product key number from your computer or the one from the new disk?

There are many issues that could be involved here.
Even though you say there are no hardware problems. Memory could be involved here.

Please give the following info:

How much memory do you have installed?

What OS was on the computer previously?

Are you installing 32 bit or 64 bit?

Memory---------> 512MB

OS------------> Windows XP Home Edition 32bit (previously)

All the hard ware on the system is being detected without any problems as far as I can tell..

The system crashes before I get to the point to input the key.......

After creating a partition to format the Hard drive, it says updating at the bottom of the screen then it show the blue screen of death.......
