@ UncleV

Installed pulseaudio.   It did nothing for me.   On bootup sound still blocked by two PIDs.

I never found anything that I fixed, but my system is working now, and seems to be stable.  Many reboots and sound comes up working.  Maybe I got caught in some combination of upgrades that broke the connection between knotify and kmix, and the rest of the system.

Right now I am completely upgraded and working good.  I even found how to make audacity work in ALSA, (@UncleV) I still don't have pulseaudio installed.   It still looks like a solution in search of a problem to me.  But what do I know?  Cheesy

Thanks for all the encouragement to keep on truckin'.

I think I have a similar situation as the OP, and my thread is located here:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,77851.0.html

I was directed to the "Sound has disappeared. (Resolved with reservations)" thread, but I'm quite a newbie to PCLinuxOS, and I'm not really sure where to begin.  If anyone else is willing to help, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks...
Chris
