I just installed PCLinuxOS on my PC and everything just works. I had no problem connecting to my wireless router, my printer set up quickly and painlessly and it looks amazing!! The only hiccup I had was dual booting with Mandriva, but fixing grub fixed that up too. I was so impressed I actually tried the live cd on my laptop and that worked just as well which means I'm going to have a really hard time not dual booting it with Win 7 or replacing Win 7  Wink

You'll probably find that in a dual boot setup you'll find yourself using Windows 7 less and less until its basically redundant.

Good luck whichever route you take.

I don't very often use Win 7 or my laptop but I'm thinking of playing Guild Wars and it is a Windows game and I have no idea how to go about trying to play it in Linux. I am in the process of looking into it though so any suggestions anyone has are completely welcome. Smiley

Have you checked out appdb?
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9194

Says that GW should run without problems through wine. Though the entry i'm looking at says that BFS causes GW to have bad performance. PCLOS uses a BFS kernel by default, so you may have performance issues due to that. You will just have to try and run it and find out.

Wine is dead simple. Simply open Synaptic package manager (the icon at the bottom that looks like a box and a CD) and use that to install it (if its not already installed). Then if your "exe" files (windows program files) are not yet automatically set up to run with Wine, all you would really have to do is set it up so that exe files open up in Wine (ask if you need help with this). Many Windows programs will simply 'just work', while some will need tweaks to get working, and a few wont even run. But it still works out great.

I mod an old Windows game called Battlezone 2, and the game itself and all of the (windows-based) modding tools I use for it run under Wine.

If you have a lot of games that you wish to be able to play under linux, there is a program called "PlayOnLinux" (available in Synaptic) that will also help to install the games for you. Though I dont think that's needed for GW, from what I understand as long as wine is set up you can get the downloader from the website and just click on that to run it.

I think I have my GW serial kicking around somewhere. Havent played it in a couple of years though. I recall having a 55 monk build and farming around Droknar's Forge. Wasnt so great at it though though being a healer was kind of fun.

Modern gaming is better with a console imo, just my 2 cents.  Reasons why:http://internetgames.about.com/od/hardware/a/pcvsconsole.htm  Course I never build a PC high spec enough for the latest & greatest so I don't have much room to say, if you'll pardon me for that Roll Eyes  Super big welcome by the way!! Thanks Zero Angel, I have install wine and just need to put GW on the computer. I'll let you know if I run into trouble.

omskates I agree that consoles are better but at the moment I happen to have a version of GW for the PC that I would like to play. The only console I personally own is a Wii and I haven't tried any online gaming with it yet. My son has an Xbox 360 and loves online gaming with it. We have only been able to really go online with a console the last little while as we were limited to dial up. Thanks for the welcome Smiley
