Hi there,
From the 4 computers with PCLOS, i have lost on 3 my wireless connection.
A : I use Belkin usb sticks under wep... That is no problem. ( I have from those only 2 sticks, one for me and one for my wife )
B : The D-Link usb stick, no connection, or not enough link-quality for getting updates or mail... 15%, that nothing.
C : The new Belkin usb stick i bought is the latest, before i have 100% link, because i am only 3 meters from the router. On the older version of PCLOS it was no problem, under KDE 2010.7, it shows only ETHO " Wired " I can not fix my connection.
I think its a problem with the updates on my wireless router ( Phillips from Belgacom )  The problem is, i can update only under M$ and not under Linux. AND i run no Microsoft things.
Another problem is maybe... Are some drivers for wireless not anymore in the new PCLOS ? Just a question.
You now all that most of our providers don't support Linux, even Apple is a problem.
Anyone who can help ? I don't want to lose PCLOS ! To good.  Cry
Greetings,
Pencil1

I have been going through some of the network topics on forum and I noticed this one. I am not sure I understand properly but I think you are saying that you have 3 USB Belkin wifi sticks, the last one you bought is not connecting.

Has the problem been solved? Have you got it working?   Smiley

The last USB Belkin wireless stick is different of the older ones...
I can not manage to do it working on any other Linux-Distro to. Now i change my stick from the one to the other computer, not like i want and not like it must be, but a solutin for the moment.
I now one think, when i try it on XP from Micro and i instal it with the install-Disk it works like hell.
Another think is, i see the wireless connection with Linux, 90% link quality, but i can NOT connect to the router... It can be a wireless router problem.
When i click connect, my ESSID is gone and i see nothing anymore.
With a D-Link wireless stick a have the same problems. See my connection and when i want to connect, my connection is gone... Than the message, try again... Mayby a router problem.
I gonna contact Belgacom-Skynet and see whats the problem. A few months earlier i can work with all my wireless sticks... D-Link, Belkin and even the new Belkin wireless stick.
Broadcom works, a can see that on the IMac. Also Airport.
I must contact my internet-provider, its not the first time.
Thanks for Your help, i let now if i can connect with that new Belkin, if not i must buy a new one i think.
Again thanks !

I think I understand what you are saying.

It should be spring down here but has become winter weather again so I am having a bit more fun inside on the internet and the PCLinuxOS forum.

Do you know what the konsole is? If you do I can try and see if I can help you. I will be looking for commands that will tell me how your system thinks it has connected to your USB stick.

That is fine, I will leave a little test for you  Grin

From konsole or some times called terminal type in uname -a , you can also copy the red into the terminal.  Following is what the command line in terminal looks like on my system.

Code:
[gert@localhost ~]$ ping localhost

We will see how it goes.

Ask if you don't understand.

Good luck, I think we scared those USB sticks into working. Tell them we might be hanging around if they decide to annoy you further  Grin

Enjoy the new connections.  You may wish to go back to your first post, click MODIFY and then add [solved] into the subject line, then we can see it is solved without looking into the topic. Smiley

Do that, i have done a test on a xp, and the same wireless stich works, when i place it in a Linux, nopes!!!
And thinking that i see my connection... 80 at 90% link quality.
When i ask how i comes, the answer is... Whe give support for Microsoft, Apple a little, Linux nopes. There is the problem i think.
I my eyes, a wireless usb stick, is it D-Link or Belkin or like the give me an answer, buy a Belgacom usb wireless stich is crap, i see my internet even my ESSID and when i want to connect... Only the Belkins works.
For the moment its "solved " - But i think there is a lot of M$ is the best to, and only that we gonna support fully.
Its a strange world.

Heeeh, Forum tries to give support but you must do work, most people come for support and perhaps entertainment  Grin
We have better start the scaring campaign.  Plug stick into right place, make cup of coffee.

In konsole do:
Code:
[root@localhost ~]$ lspci |grep Network

On my computer I get this result, but this will be very different on yours

Quote
[root@localhost ~]$ lspci |grep Network
05:02.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 rev B 802.11g
[root@localhost ~]$

If you can manage that then we can see how far we can get.

Ask if you don't understand !
