Brother MFC-490CW install problem

Hello all,

Winblows so disgusts me that I have been an on-again and off-again Mandrake user since about 2004. I must admit, PCLinuxOS has Mandrake whipped at many levels ... all but one.

In Mandrake [2007 pwp is the latest that I have used] I can install the Brother printer supplied rpm cups wrapper and drivers and my printer works just fine. To date, however, I can not find any way to install these [or any other] drivers in PCLinuxOS. Since I research and write a lot in my personal and business life, I obviously need the use of a printer ... my printer: Brother MFC-490CW. I could care less for the pc-controlled other functions but need to be bale to print.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Looking in Synaptic, I see the package task-printing-misc. Do you have that installed?

Thank you for the instructions. I'll report back after I have exhausted all attempts to install hopefully with good [or even the bad] results.

Would you now do two things?

First, please edit the title of your first post and add the word SOLVED at the beginning of the title. That will help any future users of the Brother MFC-490CW printer find your solution.

Second, would you post the solution you used? That would certainly help any other users.
