Hi All,

i'm a linux newb i'm currently using PC LINUX OS....and quite like it...very similar to what i'm used to (windows).

Anyway i'm a F1 fan and the F1 website uses JAVA to display there live timing. I'm having trouble installing java on my notebook....so far i've tried:

use sypnatic
click custom , at left bottom panel
click task, at left panel
then see sun java run time at right panel
click it, install it,

i get this error when i try it that way:

Failed to fetch http://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.updates/task-java-2010-1pclos2010.noarch.rpm
404 Not Found [IP: 147.102.222.211 80]

so i've come here for some help.....PLEASE HELP ME  Grin

Open Synaptic Software Manager -> Settings -> Repositories. Uncheck http://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/pclinuxos/apt/ and check one other one. Then press reload to get updated file list.

Welcome to the forum. In addition to doing what Texstar suggested, you will need to click on "Search" and look for java. Once you find it, install from there.   Wink

Good luck. Post back if you still have problems.

aussie_sri:

Add to what's been said, after pressing Reload, click Mark All Upgrades, then click Apply and Apply once more from the confirmation window. After all the upgrades are installed, then install java. This keeps all your installed software in sync with the latest upgrades from the repos.
