I was working at my laptop as usual (fully updated KDE4 - specs below) in Kmail, when I noticed that clicking on a folder highlighted all the folders in between the folder I was currently in and the one I clicked on. Not a problem, I though, just ignore it. Then I noticed that suddenly certain letters would be capitalised or I would get symbols appearing instead of the numbers. Strange, time to reboot and see if an update did something. Upon restarting, the BIOS flash screen stayed up for ages only to eventually be replaced with this error:

Low Memory Ox2efc0-0x63f40
Press any key

A number of similar messages were then reported each time I pressed a key. Eventually I got through to the grub menu and selected the normal option. The KDM log in page appeared, but I couldn't log in (presumably because the keyboard in't typing in what I it should be). I wondered if the root section of the HDD had run out of space so booted up off a liveUSB I have. There was no problem with / or /home. However the same inability to type the correct thing was present when running off the liveUSB!!!

I am at a complete loss as to solve this problem, but need to get it sorted soon. I presume that there i some sort of hardware failure, but unsure where to start.

Any comments?Huh

I think something has got fried on my motherboard as the same fault is seen in Windows and with an external USB keyboard. The wireless broke a couple of months ago and am guessing it is near the end of its life so think I will retire the system....... unless someone thinks it is easily fixable???
