PCLOS XFCE (Phoenix)

Canon MX310 using driver for Canon Pixma MP180. (found after google search that this printer works with that driver.)
Using printerdrake it installs OK and at the end I can print a test page.

However when trying to print from any app (firefox, openoffice printer setup test page, openoffice writer) the printer is visible and shows as ready, when I select "print" it says "printed successfully" or similar, but nothing happens.

I have gone back through PCLOS control centre > Hardware > configure printing and scanning > setup printers and print job queues... I can't find a print queue. Where should I be looking? The apps seem to be able to find the printer but not to print?

Is there something I haven't installed that gives a print queue?

Might try to install task-printing-cannon if not installed?
