1. Emerald can be run with kwin - there is a package in the repo that enables you to do so - smaragad
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Smaragd+(Emerald+for+KDE)?content=1251622. I believe (not running kde right now so cant check) that there is an option in system settings that allows you to select emerald over kwin
Having run kde with both kwin and also in the past compiz , my advice to you would be this - Stick with kwin and use any number of settings to get cool borders etc . kwin is far better integrated (obviously) and imo as capable as compiz .
On the note of fusion-icon , I rarely recommend this software as it feels "hacky" and has always imo been unneccesary.
