Hi.

How can I make emerald default at startup?

I tried "System - Preference - Startup Applications" and gave "emerald --replace" command with Emerald as name. On restart, it doesn't work.

How is it done? Sad

to select compiz fusion as your window manager first open pclinux control center/hardware/3d desktop/enable 3d

after this and a reboot loading compiz you can load fusion icon under kmenu/run/fusion icon

once it list the right app doubleclick on it, this will load the compiz fusion icon near the clock on your taskbar

right click on it(blue box with a white arrow)/select window manager/compiz(if it is not already checked)

in that menu(same blue icon) select under select window decorator/emerald

emerald and compiz runs together, you can't have emerald without compiz afik, this means that you can use kde desktop effects and you will need to use compiz effects(a plus for many)

1. Emerald can be run with kwin - there is a package in the repo that enables you to do so - smaragad http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Smaragd+(Emerald+for+KDE)?content=125162

2. I believe (not running kde right now so cant check) that there is an option in system settings that allows you to select emerald over kwin

Having run kde with both kwin and also in the past compiz , my advice to you would be this - Stick with kwin and use any number of settings to get cool borders etc . kwin is far better integrated (obviously) and imo as capable as compiz .

On the note of fusion-icon , I rarely recommend this software as it feels "hacky" and has always imo been unneccesary.

.

sudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz
Go to Line 71 and you'll see this:
Quote:# Use emerald by default if it exist
USE_EMERALD="yes"

Also in the compiz config there is an option to use emerald or not.

Is the Window Decoration Plugin Enabled?

Check whether the Window Decoration plugin is enabled. It must be enabled for the borders drawn by window decorators to become visible. Run ccsm, then ensure that the check box next to "Window Decoration" is marked

After enabling compiz under the PCC, I went CompizConfigSettingsManager >>> Effects >>> Window Decorator >>> change command to
Code:
emerald --replace

A Solution might be installing the compiz fusion icon and then selecting Emerald as the window decorator. Then making compiz fusion icon start after every login.  I think that the command is (without quotes) "fusion-icon"
