I've been scanning the forum searching for solutions but none seem to work.

I can get sound from everything, but not if I go to youtube or something else that uses flash.

I saw texstar's postings about modprobe.conf but that didn't fix the problem:

===========================

install scsi_hostadapter /sbin/modprobe sata_sil; /sbin/modprobe pata_amd; /bin/true
install ide-controller /sbin/modprobe ide_generic; /bin/true
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe ehci_hcd; /sbin/modprobe ohci_hcd; /bin/true
alias eth0 forcedeth
alias sound-slot-1 cx88_alsa
alias wlan0 ath5k
alias snd-card-0 snd_intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd_intel8x0
options snd_intel8x0 index=1
options cx88_alsa index=2
alias pci:v0000168Cd00000013sv00001186sd00003A1Bbc02sc00i00 ath5k

======================================

Any other ideas for getting sound back from flash video?  I'm using the newest pclos 2010.7

Yeah, those are the threads I was looking at, but neither one is the solution.

Thanks.

I've the same issue, no amount of alsaconf, Kmix tweaks or the above fix helps.  No additional devices are listed in Kmix or the multimedia section of KDE System Settings.  PCLOS Control Ctr didn't help, just configures the correct device (HDA-Intel).  Kmix sliders for PCM, Front, Master all up.

I also have a HDA-Intel soundcard on my laptop.

My soundcard wouldn't work at all until I added the headphone channel to the mixer, unchecked and at max.  A bit a hit-and-miss it seems.... Sad

Have you tried alsamixer?  Run alsamixer from a terminal, unmute PCM, I think you press M or something and adjust the volume.  You should get Flash sound then.

Don't know whether this will help solve anything but.....

Just discovered what appears to be a"wee gem"of a firefox extension to assist with flash problems in various distros.  It is called "FLASH-AID."  Note the upper case letters,    weg

Hello,
       I believe this is a kernel issue.cx88_alsa is loaded in the kernel before snd_intel8x0
A way to get the cx88_alsa module to load after snd_intel8x0  would probably resolve the issue.Other than removing the cx88 device physically or using a kernel without it present I don't think there is a way round this.Perhaps someone who knows about kernels/modules could offer a solution.
FLASH-AID does not appear to solve the problem either,

Have you tried to see if flash audio will work with pulseaudio and its various plug-ins installed?  I know, "Oh no, not that!".  Hey, if it works, it works and it does for me.  If you do install pulseaudio, you'll also need to create a text file, as root, in /etc named asound.conf.  Then open the text file, as root, add the following:

pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
    type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
    type pulse
}

By the way, you can always uninstall pulseaudio if it doesn't work.
Good Luck,
Jeff

Are you sure that you have your speakers connected to Line Out output? I accidentaly plugged my sounds to rear speaker output and all other sounds EXCEPT flash were working then. Just might be that simple to fix.

Hello,
       I can get sound with firefox/flashplayer if I boot from a live PCLinuxOS2010-07 cd and my satellite tuner card removed.However I don't get sound
with my current installation despite the removal of the tuner card.
I guess this means choosing no sound in firefox, or no satellite card with a fresh install and sound in firefox.
I should add that was with kernel 2.6.32.11-pclos 2.bfs.
I have also tried all the fresh kernels to date with my installation without success.
It would appear this issue is here to stay.

Just fixed the problem here by changing the kernel  to 2.6.33.7-pclos1 from 2.6.33.5-pclos1.bfs.

Hello,
      I think with all the different things I have tried a fresh install may be the way to go.
I did notice in alsa trouble shooting reference is made to alsa being compiled into the kernal as a cause of problems.

Quote
Check that the ALSA drivers are compiled as modules

Make sure you have installed ALSA as modules, and not compiled into the kernel. ALSA fails for all sorts of reasons when compiled into the kernel (this may no longer be true for kernels after v2.6.5*). Anything that mentions sound in the kernel config, even if it is not directly to do with ALSA, set its option to M if you can. If you compile your own kernel: when you configure the kernel, make sure you see M (for module) and not * (compiled into the kernel).

    * Kernel v2.6.22.9 still doesn't like ALSA compiled into it, modules work.
The kernel compiler for PCLinux could respond perhaps?
When I did lsmod in a console no mention of alsa is shown.I presume this means it is not loaded as a module?
