I have been on Sidux for the last year or so.
At that time it was so much faster than PCLinux but it is not easy to set up for everyday stuff.

I have just had a number of breakages (it is normally very stable) and decided to have another go with PCLinux (It was PCLinux that first got me off Windows)

I put the LXDE version on my Acer Aspire One and was very pleasantly surprised with the speed compared to to the 2008 PClinux install it was running.
Anyway, setup has been so easy on my Atom with Nvidia ION, pretty much everything working out of the box and as fast as sidux!

So a huge thank you to Texstar and everyone else involved in PCLinuxOS, it is truly a excellent piece of work.

Just found this and am encouraged.

How about we put some links here for LXDE howtos?

Rudge,

To answer your question ... YES. In fact, I have a pretty good idea of where I'm going up through next May/June.

Now ... all aboard! I suspect the first train will be coming into the station within the next 10 days (probably less).

Let's see... installed "task-lxde" earlier today. Played around with it for a while. Was so impressed with performance, speed, and stability that I replaced my KDE 4.5.1 install with LXDE. Well done to all involved!

My 2 cents worth: My Darling has a Compaq C300 famous on the Forum for having had Vista replaced 3 years ago after a month of ownership with 2007, where-upon I was forbidden ever, EVER, to mess with it. And I haven't, until the "I'm missing something" flag went up when I managed to create a wireless print server out of an elderly Presario running LXDE that Madam couldn't natively access. This, and 2007 was slowing down, not reacting to rodent clicks, and running the fan a lot. Time for a change.
I flashed up the LXDE 2010 live cd and had wireless and the printer operating in less than 5 minutes. Shall I install it? Hmm, not if you are going to fiddle with it for days, she said. Yippee! Backed up her data, installed the OS, and was surprised to find that it "remembered" the WiFi and printer from the live cd run. We added some of the "fruit" that she needed, like Mah Jongg, Pysol, OO, and KMPlayer. Took less than an hour. Lots of Brownie Points for John, and my Darling is delighted with the speed and stability of her new OS. Win-win.

Thank you Tex, Neal, and all. LXDE ROCKS!!  Grin  Grin

It's good to have a win when you've gotta tough crowd to work with, ain't it?

Well done also for seizing the moment with the new convert.

veronicathecow  now install task-enlightenment and have not one but two beautiful DE's

I have an Acer with Atom and Nvidia ION graphics, installed the KDE4 regular version and then task-LXDE and task-enlightenment and KDE apps runs reasonably fast in both DE's
