many years of windonts user here.....tried out pclos 2010 kde a couple weeks ago from live cd.....well, i said goodbye to vista and havent looked back. I have messed up a couple times already, but just reinstalled and started again(learning as i go..lol) this distro caught all my laptop hardware...dellinspiron 1525...out of the box. I love looking through all the repository stuff, and still cant believe its all free to grab if i'd like(thank you to all who keep linux this way!!) I have found answers to most of my curiosities here on this site(another HUGE help)...anyways, i am very much a newbie with linux, but am anxious to learn and grow with this great OS!

Welcome ryoung,

You have not only made a good move to come to the Linux world, but you have also come to the right place. PCLinuxOS is the ideal distro for beginners. Having said that, it does not mean that it is only for beginners. It is best for all (may be except servers).

Welcome ryoung.
To think of all the software that I bought  whether online, or at the store . Angry Angry
Most of this free software you get in the repo's are superior to the closed source ones.

As you like trying out new apps etc, you may want to consider using Virtualbox as that way you can install whatever you want without it affecting your "main desktop" in any way whatsoever.

If your unfamiliar with Virtualbox, please just make a new post and you'll get lots of good advice on setting it up and using it.

Regardless, have fun
