Thank you Tex and everyone that makes this the best distro I have tried. Last nite I tried doing the mylivecd and as usual it just worked and I now have my own DVD of how I like PCLOS which makes me a bit more game to try different things and not worry too much if I stuff things up which I often do Only 2 things more and to me I'd have just about the perfect system which are if I could get the laptop speakers to turn off when I have my external speakers plugged in and not so important, if I could get 3D effects working. Anyway Thank you to all. Adrian in far Nth Qld. Australia

Welcome seahawk, to enable 3d desktop effects (Compiz Fusion), open the "pclinux control center" and in "hardware" click on "configure graphics" then click in "configure 3d desktop effects", then click on "compiz fusion" icon and press ok, and that's it...hope it helps you.

With the KDE4 version you can also enable KDE 3D effects. Just use the KDE Control Centre aka Configure Your Desktop!

Do both configure the system the same way?

For best audio control I suggest installing and using PulseAudio ...... install almost all related Pulse packages in the repository for best results. A long thread on the beginnings of Pulse use by some of us http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,71536.0.htmlIt works very well here. It allows me to direct any audio source to any output source, on a per application basis. Have fun!

Do both configure the system the same way? No. They are both 3D effects but different, enable one or the other, not both. KDE4 has the effects I use, Compiz-fusion has many more.

Thanks everyone, but I've tried all the things that have been suggested but the compiz-fusion butten is always greyed out and the your computer does not support 3D effects button is is always on. I've tried 3D effects with kde while I've had all compiz enabled and also disabled and I've tried using compiz manager but nothing works. Also, JohnBoy, tried using PulseAudio and followed your link but all I got was as the same problems as davidwillis had, which is,as I've copied and pasted.
OK, just got pulse installed on kde4, but when I run volume control I get connection failed: connection refused edit: I tried enabling pulseaudio in the sound configuration as well... it told me to reboot, but it still does not work, and when I go back to the sound configuration it is not enabled anymore. When I installed all the pulse packages my puter would not let me log out nor resart or shutdown but all worked as normal once I uninstalled them. Anyway not to worry as I'm still very happy with this distro. Adrian

He did, as you no doubt read, resolve his problems with Pulse. Maybe you will too.

OK, just got pulse installed on kde4, but when I run volume control I get connection failed: connection refused Check your user is in the 'audio' group just in case ..... Those times I have seen the above error have been when Pulse has actually been switched off in the Hardware Settings. In that case I suggest that you carefully tick the box .... just once ...... and reboot to see if anything changes. Because the 'tick' does not remain in the box it is difficult to know which state it is in ..... ticked or not. When Pulse is working there will be nothing else showing in the KDE CC - Computer Admin - Multimedia except one listing for PulseAudio Sound Server I hope you manage to get it working for you as it gives marvellous control to the user. regards.
