Compiz settings manager won't allow me to enable animation effects.  When I click on the check box nothing happens.  If I go into the animations settings, there is another check box to enable the animations add on.  When I click on it the box gets checked but when I go back to the main screen it is not checked.  Is there possibly some other option enabled that is not compatible with animations?

I'm running PCLOS2010 and have an older graphics card (Nvidia GE Force 3 TI200) but the animations work fine in PCLOS2007/2009.

Thanks for any insights you may have.

Yes, I have logged off and back on and even rebooted to no avail.  Earlier I was running PCLOS 2007/2009 and noticed in compiz settings manager under Effects that both "Animations" and "Animations Add On" are available.  "Animations" allows you to select which actions (open, close, minimize, etc.) use which animation.  "Animations" does not show up at all on my 2010 install.  "Animations Add On" just allows you to set the variables (speed, direction, etc.) applicable to the animation).  Maybe this version of compiz is not very compatible with my display card.  Would like to revert back to a previous version but don't know how/if you do that with synaptic.

Have you been into Synaptic and added the other Compiz plugins?  They might cover what you are looking for. And I'm guessing you've got Compiz Fusion enabled in PCC > Hardware.

Edit: is this an updated 2009 to 2010 or a completely new install of 2010?

menotu,
What a novel idea!  Who would have thought to look to see if all plug-ins were installed.  I guess I was going on the assumption that the main plug-ins would be included if compiz itself was installed.  But lo and behold when looking in synaptic at uninstalled packages I noticed that compiz main plug-ins were not installed.  So I installed them and now things seem to be back to normal.  So thank you very much for pointing me to where I would probably never have thought to look - particularly since the compiz extra plug-ins package was already installed and I presumed everything would be in there.  I pulled my compiz config file from my previous install so I didn't even have to go through the setup process.  Yes, I did have compiz enabled in PCC hardware and this is a completely new install of 2010.
Thanks for you help,  ziggy

It may be a matter of space on the LiveCD - quite a few apps etc are not installed by default in the expectation that people can install "the extras" later on..

Glad your sorted now.
