LXDE! Coffee, Bacon and Cheesecake!

« on: June 30, 2010, 05:51:19 PM »

The quarterly update of PCLinuxOS-LXDE for 2010 is now available
Changes:
New kernel: 2.6.33.5 bfs
CD/DVD burner app: grafburn
New in-house screenshot app: Screenie - clicking the menu entry puts a dated screenshot in your /home directory.
Mail Client: Sylpheed

Now available -->

http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/live-cd/english/preview/pclinuxos-lxde-2010.1.md5sum

This is one of the mirrors. You may want to try one of the others to avoid overloading it.

Yes, I did, but if you want it, it is easy to install it.

Neal, I have a question. None of these changes are being brought in as an update to my current LXDE install, why is that? Am I confused, again!  Roll Eyes Tongue Tongue

No, the changes are not in an update, but it is easy to install Screenie, Grafburn, Sylpheed and kernel 2.6.33.5.

OK, I was under the impression that the new .iso's were simply a snapshot of were the OS should be via "updates".

So if that is the case, I could be fully updated, but still not necessarily current with LXDE. Is that a correct assumption?

I didn't realize that there were quarterly iso "releases" with LXDE.

If you are fully updated, you are fine.
I simply changed a few app choices (for example, Screenie is very much smaller than mtpaint screenshot) and added a newer kernel. Otherwise, it is the same system fully updated at the time of release.

There were not last year, but this year, yes, there are. The purpose is the keep the size and amount of updates smaller for new users / new installs.

thanks.

You're good to go, JohnBoy. Smiley
