Hi,
Please don't laugh. I am new to linux and my ignorance will fade as I go along. I am having trouble with my windows xp partition and was thinking about reinstalling clean to remove the problems. Question is, will I have to redo my PCLinuxOS Install also?

Thanks,

Penny

I don't think you would have to reinstall PCLOS.  Doesn't Windoze give you the option to repair a broken Windows install?   If that works for fixing your windows, you may have to boot with the PCLOS livecd afterward and run the utility for fixing the mbr.  >MoreApplications>Configuration>Redo MBR.

Good luck.

if you have divided your drive into two partitions, windows should install only on the first.

First of all back up all your needed data (documents, music, movies etc.) from Windows and PCLOS partitions.
After that you should be careful where Windows installation process should install itself - choose the previous Windows partition. If you are not sure you can always go back unless you click "Yes" on the final warning, as far as I remember Windows installation. Smiley

Really wish you good luck!  Wink

When Windows is installed it will place it's own boot-loader and it's possible there won't be an option of booting to PCLOS  Sad

Just make sure all your repairs  stayed inside  the Windows partition and you will have no problems other than having to redo  your bootloader from the PCLOS LiveCD, either as wayne 1932 suggested or from a terminal as root.(This is the non graphical way)
All that would require is typing:

 su              press ENTER
password     type root
type            redo-mbr   press ENTER

A text window will pop up informing you about resetting your bootloader
The content will have Windows and PCLOS
  Click to save it
  Reboot
There really isn't a risk  factor

I can verify that this will work. I have done it several times. It works like a charm.
