Karl provided me with some helpful information regarding a repository disc-set shortly after I installed PCLinuxOS for the first time. The time and effort that he expended creating the disc-set, and his immediate response to my forum post, strongly suggested to me that he was very dedicated to helping move the PCLinuxOS distro forward. I think it would be appropriate if his obituary could be posted here in the forum, thus giving all the opportunity to fully appreciate his life's work and his contributions.

Thanks Old-Pollock and Adrzejl for getting the clips onto the forum for me. I had this idea back in the days of pclos 2007 to put a demo machine in a computer shop in Nerang, Qld, Australia. Karl and i had already started a close mate ship and like myself, i explained to him that very few people here in Aus had  any clue what Linux was or ever seen it and its capabilities in action. I asked the computer shop guy what he knew about Linux or had ever heard of PCLinuxOS. To which he had very little idea. So i set up a machine here on the Gold Coast, Karl as you can now see was the real brains with the video editing. We loaded on the best of the 2 vids, forget which one now and he showed me how to set the machine so that it would automatically log into the desktop and load that Intro Video at boot. Working together via Skype and email we decided it was all good to go, customized the desktop to make her look real flash, Kooldock at the time, Gkrellm, etc. The two blokes were very impressed and it attracted a lot of attention. Had a web-cam setup on it too at the time and all Good to go with Skype, which took a bit of doing back in those days! I got some calls from people wanting to know more, how to get it, set it up etc. I installed onto a few interested peoples computers for them and left some live CD's, charging only a small amount for my labor time to set up machines, for those who were not game to have a go at it for themselves. Karl and i were not well off financially, but it was just our contribution to showing the general public there is a beautiful alternative to "you know what!" and great if you took the time and patience to learn how to use it. Ironically many mistook it for Ma-OSx(fill in the blanks, not supposed to use the other systems names!). So that's pretty much the full story behind that. Im sure as another member sugested, that given time Tex, Old-Pollock and the crew can put together something more like a formal Obituary thing with the vids, or one of the two. Could not have done it without my mate and actually i can openly say that i may not be alive today if it had not been for us meeting together, the support he gave me during a very tough personal struggle. I'll see ya up there mate! That's the only place a man of his caliber could now be. Loving, humble and ever helpful. Thank you all so much, the best community forum on the web! That will have to be my last reply concerning Karl's passing on.  To grieve is necessary and good for the soul, but Karl would want me to try to get on with it now, life that is and maybe help people out on the forum by informing you openly of some i ridiculous mistakes  and things ive tried!!! In the free software world, the most valuable commodity is time.

People who give their time freely are what makes our little world go round. KarlM was one such person. Like many here, I never knew him personally. However, I am saddened by his passing because he was one of ours, someone who helped make our community what it is.

Such sadness must of course be tinged with optimism, that for every one of us that passes, many others will come to take their place. Whilst we mourn the loss of individual friends, our community will get stronger.

Keep spreading the news, celebrate KarlM's time with us, and ensure it was not in vain.
