As a fellow Sci-Fi lover, I've never seen Firefly.
I may have to look into it.
Very definitely! It's kinda like, um, "rednecks in space" except that Joss Whedon brought a rare gift (and some excellent writers) to the show. A pity it only lasted for about 11 episodes - Fox really screwed them over. Do yourself a favor, though: get and watch
Firefly on DVD before seeing the movie,
Serenity, so it will make more sense. There's also a
Serenity role-playing game if you indulge in that gentle pastime.
As far as KDE, I hear you. Coming from Gnome, it took me several tries to finally commit to the DE.
Use to keep going back after a few hours, but a few months ago I made the commitment to really give it a chance, and now I wont use anything else.
Once you get the hang of it, you'll really like it.
I've always been a KDE fan since about KDE 2.0, (and let's not get into why we think one might be better than the other, at least not here)
It really seemed to me, though, that with KDE4 the KDE team started to provide solutions to problems that didn't really exist (kinda like they were trying to keep up with the Gateses, or did that go the other way 'round?
?Quien Sabe?). KDE4 is nice and all, but it is a huge beast, and rather lumbersome compared to earlier incarnations. Everything works a different way than earlier (when things just sorta worked), and it's been a bit of an adjustment.
I've even loaded LXDE as a "fall-back" position for when I want stuff to go faster (my system is a Dell Latitude D620 laptop - a dual core, but running at a comparatively torpid 1.83 GHz and with a measly 2 gigs of RAM (heh). With a 7200 RPM drive, this system performed a lot better (I've got an older, bigger drive in the bay right now so I can get things done without so much swapping out to DVD+R)
As I said earlier, though, I'm finally starting to get used to this new KDE (even though I miss the old one sometimes even still).
Anyhoo...
I didn't mean for this to become a rant. Definitely check out
Firefly - I think you'll really enjoy it.
Later On,
D
