I am trying to backup some of my DVD's and after searching Synaptic found the package Thoggen (running a fully updated KDE 4.4.1 DE). I DL'd the package and then tried to backup a DVD, but the program appears to do nothing. I make the selections and then nothing happens (DVD is not even spinning up). Anyone else use this tool?

I went to the thoggen website (http://thoggen.net/) and tried to add any dependencies that weren't already installed, however I couldn't get it to work. Can anyone else confirm this?

Happy to try something else if this tool is a no-go!

Keep it clean.

If you have the space available (I see you have an 80 Gb HDD, but maybe you have additional storage?), have you considered iso images?
My dvd backups are all iso images (retains original quality, full menus, features, etc).  Only rip and compress if I want to take them "on the road".

For that, k3b works great.

I have the same problem as the OP. Thoggen works perfectly good on my Mepis laptop, but not at all on either of my PCLOS desktops. I don't want to create .iso files. I want to rip the DVDs and create ogg media. Thoggen is a perfect tool for that, but not if it isn't going to work on PCLOS. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I ended up using AcidRip, which for my purposes suits me fine..... Can't see an option to convert to Ogg, but perhaps there is an add-on? Hope you find a solution mountainsam

"not at all"  does not tell us what happens when you use it.

What does it and does it not do?

What errors do you get?

What have you done to try to find the cause of the error?

Does it happen with all DVDs?

etc etc

Thanks, 18. I'm at work this morning, and am grabbing a minute to check this thread. As you found, everything seems to be cool until you click OK and the actual ripping is supposed to happen. Thank you for taking the time to explore this problem for us. I'm not anything at all resembling a programmer, and I envy the folks with the knowledge to build and maintain these apps. But it does pique my curiosity why it would work on a Mepis OS and not PCLOS. I have several computers in my house, and I'd like to use one particular older desktop for my "ripping" station. It has PCLOS with the XFCE desktop, and I'd like to keep it that way and not have to put Mepis on it (though Mepis is a fine distro, I prefer PCLOS). Many, many thanks again, and thanks in advance to the genuis that comes up with the fix.

The new version of Thoggen is in the repository.

Thanks to Leiche who corrected and repackaged it.

Please check it out ......  I only started it and did not have time to let it finish, but it was ripping as expected when I stopped it.
