Well, I've been using Linux since 2002(ish) and have distro hopped myself into oblivion
and back again many times over.
Historically I have always preferred Debian/Ubuntu generally. But, PCLOS blows both
distros out of the water!
My hardware is pretty decent (E8400+4GB RAM, Nvidia GTS250) but on Debian/Ubuntu
my fave 3D benchmark, Foobillard, is not nearly as smooth as on PCLOS. This really
impressed me. A small but real world observable difference all the same.
Additionally, Ubuntu's failure to support/integrate JACK in it's libraries is bewildering
at best. Policies eh?  Roll Eyes

The only weaknesses (generic not PCLOS) that are still apparent to me are:-
Compiz still impacts 3D app performance too much (Nvidia issue I believe)
'Record my deskop' is terrible as ever (all distros I've tried)
'Xvidcap' works but not as a encoded video.

I am using the GNOME variant and I'm very happy with my setup so far.
Thankyou!

Yes, the choice of DE's on Linux generally adds to the fun of distro testing. I've tried many for quite
long periods of time. Fluxbox,Xfce,KDE,GNOME,Openbox,LXDE,E17,ROX, all fun to try.  Cheesy

You're absolutely right about JACK. Debian's implementation is very good. PCLinux's is just as good. Solid JACK connections are absolutely essential for quality audio recording. Even without a real-time kernel, PCLinux is very low-latency. Have you noticed that?

Running PCLOS on Athlon AM2-4200 with 2Gb Corsair Ram using ASUS M2N32 WS Pro Mobo with Nvidia GF7600GT graphics, and Samsung NC10 Netbook

Yep. It's good considering I'm still using my on board Realtek HDA chip (all digital to AVreceiver via HDMI).
I do use real time priority though, as the realtek does hiccup occasionally. Mind you, I do have pulseaudio (JACK sink/source) hooked in for better non-JACK desktop compatibility.
Everything seems to work, including flash, SDL games, Skype and Audacity. Icing on the cake would be a system
tray volume applet for JACK-RACK (vol,EQ). The existing DE applets won't change native jack application sound
levels...  Sad
I'm still trying to figure out a way to get JACK restarted on resume (without manual intervention). That would be
cool.

PCLOS is definitely back on song that's for sure.  Cool
