Hi,
I have a Postscript printer (Xerox Docuprint C1110) that has previously worked in 2007 (on the same computer, so it is not a h/w problem).

I installed 2010.1, & upgraded it. The Printer is detected OK, but refuses to print (Printer connected to USB port). This happens on a document, or Test page. I cannot find the print Q, so re-installed everything I could see involved with the printing, but still no success. I have googled the problem, & could find no satisfactory answer.
Could some helpful person please help me through this. I looked at the error logs, but there seems to be nothing there (but I was not sure of which log to view).

Thanks, Doug

go to your PCLinuxOS Control Center -> ... (devices) -> Printers

select your "installed" printer, choose 'edit', and double-click on the first 5 option options (chosing the right preferences: your model, your connection (/dev/usb/lp0), ...)

success

There are a lot of issues with the current/new HP printer driver system.

I noticed both in KDE3 & KDE4 that the hplip update file screws every thing up ( no duplex printing or you get reversed even pages upside down ).

Thanks to all who answered. My printer is still not working. It is detected correctly as /dev/usb/lp0. I think the system considers the job was sent to the printer, but it seems to go into thin air...
I have been around Linux for a long time (10 yrs, & PCLinuxos since early days), so I do know my way around, even though I am only a user. My feeling is that there is something not being configured correctly. What config files should I look at (& possibly post here...)

btw, I have a feeling that the problem could be USB based: I did notice that the usb devices are sometimes not detected well, for instance when you plug in an extra memory stick (again, not something I noticed before the update).

Thanks, Doug

maybe very stupid question...
but if you configure your printer (in the hardware section), and you click on edit (after you selected the printer):
when you configure "Printer manufacterer, model": is it selected on raw printer? (NOT visible when you don't click this, or look only on the main page!)

in that case, change it to the right manufacturer and model
(again, maybe it seems all right in the main window, where your printer appears in the list!)

Selected proper printer. Done all the dances. Worked before the Kde4, kde3 and the newest hplip.
I'm sure there are other HP users that are having trouble with a bprinter that ran great earlier.
EXAMPLE: I can run from my live CD of KDE3 remaster and get my printer to print duplex pages correctly, that is with out making the update. Once I install and make the update ( hplip ) the printer is in la la land.

Hopefully someone may be able to see the problem. I have my suspicions that it may be permission relted, but I am not sure exactly how to fix it.

(Additional info: I loaded 2010.1 on Saturday, then immediately updated it,)

Hello Duogo,

did you by any chance install the printer using PCC? I have a Canon mp610 and had exactly the same problem. I deleted the printer and reinstall this way : open a web browser and type in localhost:631 as the url, then go to admin -> add printer, etc . The printer was then able to print w/o any problem.Don't know why PCC wouldn't work, but give it try. Hope this helps

Problem solved.
Thanks for the help! I will document what I found:

-Originally I set the printer up with PCC. As suggested by buggy, I ran localhost:631, but could not get the printer recognised correctly (always the same error as mentioned before). I then downloaded the PPD file from Xerox, because the printer C1110 is not explicitly mentioned in the drivers. To do this I needed to download & install the -rpm cabextract to uncompress the pp_ file, stored in M$ cab format. I could then load the correct driver for my printer.
The thing still would not print, so I looked at the config file etc/cups/printers.conf, & noted that the deviceURI parallel:/dev/lp0 so was missing the /usb/  (deviceURI parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 should be the correct address for my printer) So I ran PCC, & stopped cups, edited the file so the correct deviceURI parallel:/dev/usb/lp0'line was entered, then restarted cups & VOILA! Printer started working.

I am n Guru, but I think this may be a bug.

Thanks again for the help.
regards Doug

(chosing the right preferences: your model, your connection (/dev/usb/lp0), ...)

That's the thing I did the last few days/weeks to get my printers (mostly HP) working, so...

but you've done many other things...  Grin  (I don't know everything about that  Lips Sealed)

fine you found it!
