NB: I have re-named this post to better reflect the issues - sorry to those whom have been following.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sorry but it's got me - can't find a post to help?

Have not been able to get my 4 different wallpapers to come into effect - got to be something simple.

Have the plug-in activated and the 4 different images selected
In 2009 it was KDE Transparency needing to be activated

The only thing I can find in 2010 is Translucency and I have that checked in
Look & Feel - Desktop Effects - All effects - Appearance ?

Is there something else I need to engage?? or disengage ??

This used to be simple in 2009 - any help with thanks.

Hi Hawkeye

Maybe have a look in: Configure Your Desktop >> Look and Feel >> Desktop >> Multiple Desktops > and there is an option for "Different Activity for Each Desktop"

a Right Click seems to have brought it all back though?

Do you have compiz set? As I don't believe it play nicely with it - if you have, you may want to try resetting it to use KWin (Configure Your Desktop >> Personal  >> Default Applications >> Window Manager)

Tried resetting to KWin and back again to Compiz - no luck.

Are you both able to get this to perform correctly on your setups?
ie: are you setting a different wallpaper image from within the Compiz Wallpaper plugin?
if so - do you get those wallpapers correctly on each side of your cube desktops?

I can only get the default PCLos (Taurus) wallpaper to appear on all faces?
When I log-in (and out) I do see a very quick 'splash' of one of the images that I have set from within Compiz
I remember getting this when setting up from 2009 and the function required to correct it was to set KDE Transparency which you could activate from System Config (If I remember correctly). But I don't see that option here in 2010.1-KDE ??

Sorry Hawkeye I'm working away from my usual site today and haven't upgraded this lappy yet but from memory I do have different wall papers on each desktop though I don't have compiz running (hence my question about plugins. I'll try setting it up when I get back and let you know what happens.

Thanks for your efforts 7272andy - just got to be there somewhere ah?

I have a number of issues with this new version (2010) but them's for other posts.
Shall keep battling.
I'm sure it's got to do with KDE Transparency but maybe elsewhere.
Need to establish what or where the settings are for this under KDE4 as apposed to 3.

Well - still at it - have read a number of posts via KDE & Compiz and supposedly it can't be done due to KDE's Plasma??
but then found this .....
    * Aaron Seigo committed a small change to make plasma support the compiz wallpaper plugin indirectly. Indirectly here means that this is not officially supported, but you can make it work:
    *
      you need >=KDE 4.1
    * configure the plasma background mode to none (=solid fill with the selected color)
    * add/replace the wallpapercolor option in the [Containments][1] group of the .kde(4)/share/config/plasma-appletsrc config file with "wallpapercolor=0,0,0,0"
    * execute 'kquitapp plasma' in Konsole
    * enable Wallpaper plugin
    * execute 'plasma' in Konsole

tested with KDE 4.2.3 and 4.2.4

NB: Have tried this but get this error when execute 'kquitapp plasma' in Konsole
<unknown program name>(25969)/: "Application plasma could not be found using service org.kde.plasma and path /MainApplication."

I have done a search for 'plasma' from / and only returns these 4...
usr/share/apps/   ----Folder
usr/share/sip/PyKDE4/  ----Folder
usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/  ----Executable but still gives me above error??
home/hawkeye/.kde4/share/apps/dolphin/view_properties/local/usr/share/sip/PyKDE4/  ----Folder

So I'm stumped until I can figure out how to 'kquitapp plasma' Huh

OK I just tried this with a live CD

Look & Feel  > Desktop > Desktop Effects
     Tick Enable Desktop Effects and the effects to Box Switch and Desktop Cube Animation

Look & Feel  > Desktop > Multiple Desktops
     Number of Desktops 4 and Different activity for each desktop ticked

Desktop switching works with different wallpapers and the cube

EDIT
Enabling 3D gave me a working Compiz cube but disabled the workspace settings and multiple wallpapers.

I remember something about this from a long time ago, but I don't think I'm going to remember the solution anytime soon

Thanks 7272andy but it's not KDE's desktop system that I want and I managed to create all that you say except after reboot I lost my individual desktop images (reverted back to defaults) ?? - settings not holding after re-boot at present.
Anyways, that's not my problem (at the moment) I want my Compiz Wallpaper plugin - lets face it, the 'cube' is so long ago - I use a cylinder or sphere (much more 'eye-candy')
I have been using the 'cube' in Plasma and it's OK but I like my sphere effect.
I suppose at the end of it all I would just like Plasma gone and go back to using Compiz - lets face it - KDE is a great apps desktop but why should they wish to climb on Compiz's bandwagon? Compiz have been banging away at it for a good while and have generally made things work well - leave the 'eye candy' to them I say.

Now, after the bash, I have since found that KDE seems to have changed the app name from Plasma to Plasma-desktop and now I can kill it (although I do get a Dbug error) at least I can kill it (and restart it of course).
Unfortunately the process don't seem to work (for me) yet  Grin
Still trying .... will keep you posted.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
I'm hoping to get my new machine in the next few days, at that point I'll be able to join the hunt more effectively - Have fun and try not to fix it all before I get there Grin

Good on you 7272andy - new machine hah? - had been thinkin about it myself but couldn't justify the gain.
I run a number - 2 are bottom end quads 2.13s one has ddr3 the other ddr2
have an old p4 3ghz running as a server 2.5Tb drive space
have another sitting under our TV and Audio acting as point for music & video
have an old single core MacG5 and a Acer1640 lappy
also have a few more that are not used (much) including a Tecra A3
Got a 15 yr old son up stairs with a couple + a lappy
Try not to think how much these all contribute to our power bills  Grin

Have noticed that I am loosing my individual desktops when ever I re-boot this 2010 system ??
I have to go through and set them up again, and again, etc
got to be not saving or reloading the settings I guess.
Lots of things to muck with anyway - ha ha ha.
Shall let you know if I manage to sort this one out.
Cheers.
