I just installed pclinuxos 2010 kde and everything seems to work except my display is max'd out at 1025x768 and I know it will go to 1280x1024. Do I need to install a different nvidia driver? and if so how do I do that?
thanks - mike

hello and welcome to the forum
pclinux uses a app called synaptic that will allow you to update, add or remove the apps you need on the system
the first thing you should do after installing system is update system, press the reload button and apply all the updates
there is two places where you can set the resolution of the screen, poclinux control center/hardware/setup the graphical server, set it the value there, also the monitor if it is not detected properly, sometimes plug and play will be perfect
the other place is kde control center/system admin/screen/size and orientation
some video cards bypas the settings on pcc but others will accept whatever you set on pcc or kde
the video card you have can use the legacy version, 96.xx that comes integrated on the livecd, all you need to do is select it on the pcc menu i mentioned before but is almost sure it is already selected

OK, I updated 148 packages then went to system config and changed the monitor to plug & play. That changed my selections for display so that I could pick 1280x1024. When I clicked n Test the screen went black and I got the following error: An error occurred: (EE) May 23 19:58:51 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please see the (EE) May 23 19:58:51 NVIDIA(0): system's kernel log for additional error messages and
Try to change some parameters
So I'm still at 1024x786

mikeinsantarosa,
For the 6xxx series of nvidia cards use the dkms-nvidia-current package which is installed on the LiveCD.
With the monitor - what type is it? if its aTFT LCD screen ten choose 'flatscreen 1280x1024' at 24bit depth
Then test it(on testing some of the 6200 cards will need you to use the cursor keys to select the ok button and enter to select)
With my 6200 card I also needed to use the nvidia configuration app (as root) to select the native 1280x1024 resolution as it wasalso downscaling to 2024x768.
Hope this helps

I have a Planar flatscreen monitor. I tried all the available combinations of 1280x1024 including the generic & falatscreen picks.
>>dkms-nvidia-current package which is installed on the LiveCD It looks like there's already 2 dkms-nvidia packages installed (synaptic) Ones a dkms-nvidia96xx and the other is dkms-nvidia-current (looks like version 195.36.24)
>>Then test it I tried all the 1280x1024's but I got vertical color bars on all of them.
>>With my 6200 card I also needed to use the nvidia configuration app (as root) I'm kinda new to this linux stuff. What's the nvidia configuration app? What do you mean?
