I'm running a Foxconn Barebones PC with 2010.1 and it works fine without Compiz on. When I try to use Compiz, the computer runs for about a half minute and then invariably freezes. I have to then reboot.

This machine has integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics and is running the Xorg 1.7.4 driver. Do anyone know if I can correct the Compiz-Fusion issue? Is this a known problem with Intel graphics and Compiz?

Any help you could give would be appreciated.

If you have Compositing turned on try turning it off  (Configure Your Desktop >> Look and Feel >> Desktop >> Desktop Effects)

How much memory does your graphics card/chip have?

Thanks for the quick response. Compositing was turned off. Just to test, I turned it on - without Compiz activated - and compositing alone works fine. I don't know how much RAM my graphics chip has. The graphics are integrated into the motherboard. I suspect it's variable - using as much RAM as it needs from the 2 GBs installed.

Does your KDE desktop effects work okay? Do/can the desktops switch using the cube effect etc?

There are some quite nice effects using the KDE desktop settings, but not (yet) as nice as Compiz (IMO  Cheesy )

Have set your window manager to Compiz? (Configure Your Desktop >> Personal  >> Default Applications > Window Manager)

Hi: The answer is a resounding YES to all of the Kwin-related stuff above. But, I simply can't run Compiz on this machine ... weird. And, BTW, it won't let me select Compiz as my default window manager.

Just for clarification - do you have 3D enabled in PCC (Configure Your Computer) System >> Hardware >> Configure 3D desktop effects > Compiz ?)

Also have installed the Compiz Fusion Icon ?

I don't know whether this will help - its from the Compiz site:
