Every time I install linux on my computer I know I can't run the effects because I had a crappy video card from back in the 90s but my parents bought me a laptop that's not that old at all Smiley I just received a Compaq r3000 and installed LXDE along with KDE4 (currently LXDE is my main DE ). When I run compiz and try the desktop cube out I only have one desktop so I went in to ccsm and changed the number to 4. I have the cube Smiley

Here is the problem though. When I use the cube to change to desktop 2 it's actually desktop 1... It still has the same windows in the panel as the last desktop and when I use the actual virtual desktop switcher on the panel it switches to the real desktop 2 with no windows open. Is there a magic button I have not clicked yet?

Okay first of all did you go to Pclinuxos control center setup the 3d desktop? That is one of the things you need to do in order to get the 3d desktop effects. another thing you need to do is make sure you have lxde control center for it as well. Then you need to go into it and enable effects. I think this might help you just let me know if it doesn't.

Yes I did but apparently the reason for my problem is the lxpanel does not support the desktop cube.

Now I'm on LXDE-mini but prior to this installed LXDE and prior to this KDE. Without Compiz.

In LXDE I think I had this behaviour:
When I click on other desktop (2,3,4)
Quote
It still has the same windows in the panel
but I'm on this other desktop. When I click on that windows in the taskbar I'm returned to the desktop1. So the taskpanel was common for all the virtual desktops. As far as I remember this behaviour could be changed from somewhere.

So are you sure when you rotate to another v. desktop you still remain in the first or may be you have common taskpanel?
When you rotate to another panel and after that click on the minimized window does Compiz rotates you back or does nothing?

Found it here!
Right-click on an empty space of the Task bar-->Task bar Settings-->Show windows from all desktops.
If it's ticked then un-tick. Smiley
