Ceramics has installed PClinuxOS 2010.1 on my desktop, and both printers were detected; but the Epson colour printer was set as default.
I went into the computer configuration program as 'root', and the Hardware correctly identified both USB printers: Brother HL 2140 and Epson Stylus Office T40W, but had set the Epson as default.
I reset the default to Brother and was told that I'd been successful (the x was now against the Brother instead of the Epson).
When I left the hardware manager I quickly found out that the default had reverted to the Epson printer.
I uninstalled the Epson, rebooted, and used the printer autodetection device as 'root', with both printers switched on.
I noticed that it showed that the Brother  was on USB and the Epson on USB #1 ..... and was marked as default printer!

What can I do to get the Brother to stay set as default printer?

Type "printer" into the search box on the top right and click 'Search'.
Then you'll find lots of solutions to printer problems like this one which seemed to help many:
