I want to take the time to spread the word about the extremely elegant and easy to use desktop we know as e17. I know Agust has started a tips and tricks section for e17, but I'd like to kick it up a notch with our users sending in stuff to the monthly magazine. Don't worry about language skills because there are enough folks on the magazine team to iron out English, grammar, etc. What we need is to show them how easy it is once you get past that initial learning curve.
And speaking of that. Can someone tell me how to set up 'Multiple' keyboard layouts so I can switch back and forth? Is that possible?
Thanks,
Cindy aka, Linuxera

I've been learning E17 easy GUI windows configurations for making the most of small screens e.g. Netbooks, I can send in a little tutorial. And speaking of that. Can someone tell me how to set up 'Multiple' keyboard layouts so I can switch back and forth? Is that possible?
Thanks,

Ex; switch between French and US: Open your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. and add your keyboard layouts Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us,fr" #xkeymap0 Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle" EndSection
That will allow you to toggle between the US and FR keyboard layouts by simultaneously pressing Alt + Shift Hope that helps, I stole it from a puppy linux forum thread

"latam" for Latin America or "es" for Spain Another toggle option: Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll,caps:shift,altwin:menu" To switch between languages::: left shift key/alt key combination.

Good job Cindy, I like E17 but haven't had enough time yet to play with it, and it is very different. You say Agust has started tips and tricks section for e17, is it done and where can it be found? I would like to look it over a bit. Will it also cover basic getting started or the main differences in e17? Took me thinking a second to use right button on desktop to even figure out how to shut down! good job

Hi and thanks, You can also thank all our e17 enthusiasts for us even having this desktop. Had it not been for them, I wouldn't have thought of doing the ISO even though I loved e17 since the first time I tried it on another distro. You can have a look here and see what Agust has put together as well as some others here --> http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,69723.0.html Hopefully you'll get an idea about how it works. If you look at Menu > Settings > Settings Panel there are many things you can configure. On another note, a user found out that by removing the pager module he messed up his install. It's possible to go over board too quickly. Try Bling, dropshadows, (modules) or try adding a gadget or two to the desktop or 'shelf' (kicker, taskbar). It won't be long before you are flying. Welcome aboard the e17 club!!

Now, if someone just knows how to make the names of files to shorten or adjust the name lines. It shows in one line, I want them in two lines if possible.

You'll have to wait untill the e file manager gets further developed. Our best advice is to use pcmanfm, thunar or nautilus or live with the limitations of efm. E17 still isn't ready. I can live with efm with some tweaks cause i do most filemanaging in cli.

I originally had Thunar on the install but was told it's too 'CLUNKY' looking so I changed it for pcmanfm. Btw, latest e17 build is having problems with the e file manager. When you try to add the navigation bar and buttons, it crashes.. crashes, crashes. and the old drawer that's like an application launcher 'is no more' but there is something to replace it and new toys too... WootTT
