Has anyone had any luck with the ATI 5xxx series cards? Ideally 5770. I just want to be able to watch flash and 1080p movies in linux with the nice KDE effects... i primarily want the card for gaming in windows, as opposed to the nvidia offerings

Also the card has an HDMI output, will that work with linux? In your opinion

I have heard i should be prepared to give up on dual screens.

would the KDE effects and 1080p/flash work with the open drivers? Ide be ok with giving up the KDE effects.

EDIT: Sorry this is sort of a fork from a different thread which I thought should have a new thread name

Hi;

 I am using an HD5670 512mb video card from Sapphire. Runs great under PCLos.
I am using the binary driver from synaptic, and have full acceleration.

The only thing HD wise, is a demo video that was done in HD mode, and it showed fine, so I'm
guessing that the HD is working.  Grin
