I want to create a clean install of KDE4 with 2010.

I have a separate /home and / partitions for PCLOS
(along with partitions for Win XP, and a VFAT partition for data).

I know from upgrading from 2007 to 2009 it used settings in the
.xxx files in my /home directory for various apps when installing.

Should I remove all the .xxx files (.kde, .gimp, etc) to ensure those
settings have no affect on the new codebase apps.

My /home is formatted with ReseirFS

I backed up my home to a usb drive and install it all clean then brought back just the configs I needed.  Worked out well for me.  Otherwise I would advise removing, or at least renaming the .kde folder.

I'd recommend backing up and moving your /home data etc to somewhere safe and the do a completely fresh install (formatting / and /homel)

Then when you have 2010 installed and setup as you like, I would move data back over, but would suggest doing it a bit at a time and then if you get problems you can pin it down fairly quickly.

That worked for me and I didn't have any problems at all.

Good luck.

If you can keep you head while all around you are losing theirs, then you have misunderstood the situation.

Thanks for the advice.  Will apply judiciously.
