Hi, Just down loaded PCLinuxOS 2010 decided to do a clean install so re-formatted disk etc.
My printer is not supported so I down loaded driver from brother site as I always do, but hit a brick wall installing as it needs tcsh to install which is not on 2010 and not in the repository.

Grabbed tcsh from a Mandrake web site but that won't install as it does not like the version of Lzma installed.

Can we have tsch in the repository please ?

Hi gw3tmh

Have you looked in the PCC (Control Centre) and then Hardware > Configure Printing and Scanning and set your printer from there?

If you want a package/app to be included in the repo's firstly you have to have a minimum of 10 posts and secondly you should post it in Package Suggest section of the forum; Note you should also read the notes on how to suggest a package and what info needs to be included.

Hope this helps - if you need more info please post back.

I don't know which brother printer you have but I use a brother HL2170n and it is supposed to work with that driver but it doesn't .  Before the 2170 driver was even available I used the HL1270n driver, set it up manually in pcc, checked to make sure the ip address was right and it worked fine.  That was using pclinuxos 2007,  been doing the same thing through 2009 and 2010. Hope this helps.

Well TCSH is now in the repository so I installed that, then tried to install the brother propriety drivers, but I hit another snag, the version of TCSH in the repository is version 6.14 which has a known bug with a color variable, this has been fixed in later versions of TCSH the current version is 6.17.

But the present repository version will not let me run my proprietary install script to unpack a rpm as it breaks when it comes to the color variable bug.

I don't expect my Brother driver to ever be included with any Linux distro.

Will wait a few days to see if the current TCSH appears in the repository, if not I will have to manually insert the current version myself but I really don't want to do that and maybe upset synaptic.

If you know where the latest linux drivers are available you could always post an package update request in the Package Suggest section of the forum.

But please read the following link for guidance on what is required before you post a request.
