After doing a very successful install of MiniMe on my Hp Mini, I decided to try it on a Dell Mini 9 owned by a friend at work. It was running Win Xp but was very slow as it only has the 7ghz drive. I'm using an 8ghz flash drive with Unetbootin which has worked fine before.

Trying to run Livecd drops me straight to a limited shell. If I try Media Check I get:

"ERROR: Unable to mount loop filesystem,
Commands were:
losetup /dev/loop0 initrd/cdrom/livecd.sqfs
mount -r -t squashfs /dev/loop0 initrd/loopfs
Most likely cause is bad burn or bad download
Please run Mediacheck on livecd

Dropping you to a limited shell."

Then the next line is "Loading /initrd/bin/ash"

Then just below that it says

"/initrd/bin/ash: can't access tty; job control turned off"

I think the burn is ok because I ran livecd on my HP Mini from this stick and it worked fine.

Where do I go now? I get a funny feeling the hard drive or memory is dead.

I've been experimenting!

dmesg | tail gives:

sda1: rw=32, want 909096, limit=417627
EXT3-fs error (device sda1) : ext_3_get_inode_loc: unable to read inode block - inode=72721, block=295342
attempt to access beyond end of device
The 1st line is then repeated three times then:
SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x480c3
SQUASHFS error: unable to read uid/gid table

Does this help?

Thanks.

I wouldn't expect Minime to work very well on a netbook, netbooks had barely been invented yet when that was published in 2008.  PCLOS beta2 is running mine nicely.

The beta runs pretty ok on my eee pc 701sd and I am on the older one.
Flash drives are Gigabytes not Gigahertz, storage space not memory so that would have little effect on performance.
Although it would be nice to say go for the second beta of the kde release, I am not sure how close the next release is that will require a reinstall.
Arn't the old repos frozen? Trying to update or get new software for minime won't work properly, I expect. At least that is what happened with my 2009 install, hence why I am on the beta now.
Is your feind familiar with linux?

PCLinuxOS 2010 KDE 4 netbook desktop on an ASUS EEE PC 701, 2GB RAM, LG external DVD multi drive, 8GB SDD(root), 16GB SDHC(home), external  320GB WD HDD.

My forum rank does not mean much. I am an enthusiastic Linux beginner.
