SOLVED -- How do I remove a Minime installation safely?
«

I have just downloaded the 10.2 livecd and am about to install it but need a little advice first.
Presently I have 3 versions of Minime on separate partitions - no Windows. I want to remove what I call Minime1, my 'production' one (which I am having problems with) and replace it with 10.2. I have saved my /home on a Backup partition so can replace my present Firefox and Thunderbird and other settings. I will also remove Minime3.
My question is - how do I remove Minime1 without stuffing up the Boot menu. Can I just format the partition it's on and install 10.2 on that partition? Or is there more involved.
Thanks for your help.
Maurice

I assume that Minime1 is the first one on the HD, Minime2 the seconmd one on the HD , and Minime3 the last one on the HD.
I also assume that you have a Data partition after that
You can simply install 10.2 over Minime1 .
At the partitioning part during install, choose " use existing partitions "
Then you get a window, asking to format / and /home.............do so
Then I assume you want to keep Minime2

I will also remove Minime3.
You can do so by deleting it
Please note, that if you delete a partition, all partitions after it will be renamed .
So, if you have a data partition, it will be renamed
Note: You didn't say if you use ONE swap partition for all 3 minime's or ONE per Minime

Many thanks Zenaflux
I got your reply in my mailbox but it has not yet appeared on this thread.
Your assumptions are correct. And, yes, only one swap partition.
So I will go ahead the way you suggest.
But your reply brings up one further question...
Can I not remove Minime3 by formatting its partition? That way the partitions will not be renamed?

Thanks Johnboy. So now it's full ahead to 10.2.
