I've been testing beta 1 and allowing all the updates. My question is .... is it necessary to install beta 2, in other words is the updates moving me towards beta 2 ?
.....Thanks Al. Huh

If you want to test the beta prior to the final release, then yes.  You need to reinstall with beta 2.  The point is make sure the iso works well at release time.  It is also recommended that you reinstall with final when it becomes available.

If you're not interested in testing, then just wait for final.   Wink

Hi All
Have PCLinuxOS 2010 beta already installed and updated.

Was wondering will it automatically update to beta2 then Huh + TR's - before a total reinstall of the Final.

Cheers for Years

Well kind of but it is better to start clean with Beta2 or final. Beta 2 changed the default sound system on KDE 4 to alsa instead of pulse. You might experience sound issues especially if you retain home from beta 1.

Hmmm....  Texstar said above......

Now I am confused.  I am running Beta 2 on an old laptop.  No problem wiping everyting out and reinstalling when final is released.... it's just a test machine root and /home are on same partition.   But my primary computer which currently has a somewhat dead install of 2009.2 (can't get gui to work after a Synaptic install a couple weeks ago.  Tha has a separate /home partition.   Thought that was the way to go because everyone on the forum is always saying that if your home is on it's own partition a reinstall is a piece of cake.  Now it sounds as though it may not be as simple as I had hoped.   Can anyone explain what might have to happen with my /home when 2010 is relaeased so I can do my update?

Thanks!

I'm talking about the people who installed beta 1 and retained home and/or installed beta 2 after running beta 1. Beta 1 puts some configuration files in .kde4 that may conflict with beta 2 especially kmix files. To properly test beta 2 after retaining home from a beta 1 install  is to create a  new user and log in as the new user. That way everything is clean with no left overs in .kde4 from beta 1.
