This is a very minor post. Feel free to skip, I'm just checking my thinking about something.

From time to time I've responded to posts I didn't start. When I click "Show New Replies To Your Posts," it shows updates to posts of started, then skips back a couple of months to posts I commented on but didn't start. I can't find the ones I responded to dated after January, but before the recent posts I've started. Sometimes I'm able to find them through a search, but they're not listed in new replies to my posts.

Example : last reply by anyone to Too Fat post: Jan 08. Listed in "Replies to your posts."
Reply to Converted Anyone post -- not listed, but listed in my profile when I click Show Posts, with replies after mine, dated after Jan 08 but before my most recent post.

Would I need to check Notify Me of Replies when posting to get them listed under Show New Replies?

Kori,
thanks for the reply (friendly smile). Honest, I understand admin housekeeping. I'm not that much of a noob. I even understood the oops that deleted entire sections of the archive. Those concepts I get. (chuckle)

I think what makes this not a case of housekeeping is that the missing posts were made between older dates and more recent ones. As I say, if in My Profile I click Show Posts, as far as I can tell all the posts are listed. That is, some I don't even remember posting show up. There may be other forgotten ones that don't, but since they're forgotten I don't miss them.

However, when I click Show New Replies To Your Posts (under Show Unread Posts Since Last Visit), some posts that appear under Show All Posts for This User do not appear listed in Show New Replies. And these posts are in between older and newer dates. They have been replied to by me and others in between Jan 08 and say, March.

My theory is, these are the posts where I have not checked Notify Me of Replies. It's a negligible theory about one extremely small part of the way a forum board works. Just a curiosity thing, nothing serious enough to be counted even as a problem. One of those, "Hmm, I wonder...?"  Thanks for helping me wonder.

I don't remember for sure, but wasn't there a time period when they migrated the site to a new host?  I know there are various deadlinks to other posts in old forum pages I saved to hard drive for reference.

sometimes a post started in the neolithic past is resurrected by a curious researcher who adds a post, which brings it into the present.  cleaning house is tedious, time-consuming and utterly without intellectual reward, save for the neat and tidy look at the end.  the added inconvenience of scanning every thread for a currently dated post is a chore too far, so along with the neolithic, the brave new world is consgned to storage.

does that satisfy the curiosity of the average whiny, selfish brat?

Nish -- thanks for the input. My (admittedly imprecise) memory is that the migration happened sometime last year. The posts gap I'm vaguely curious about is from between January 8th and March. It may just have to go down as one of those "nobody knows, hasn't happened to anyone else, not worth the time" kinds of deals.

jaydot -- I hope nothing ever satisfies my curiosity (brave smile). I continue to think housekeeping isn't quite the answer since the posts do appear under "list posts from this user," but not in "recent replies."  Too, the gap occurs between January 8th and posts that have been recently replied to, which are listed.

I'd be content to shrug it off as something for which no answer is available and put it in the "it just does that" file.

You have grievously insulted me, sir, with "average whiny selfish brat." I am an EXCEPTIONAL whiny, selfish brat.
