KTorrent getting Very Slow Speed

Has your flash drive had any problems in the past ?

I have experienced stalled in simple file transfer from HDD to HDD but mostly from PEN to HDD my pen is 1 year old

My system is PCLOS 2009 Updated till today through synaptic 

also my Rig:
AMD 3000+
Jetway 939 + Nvidia 6100 Board
1x2 GB dual channel RAM

If you are experiencing "stalled" type problems when copying from HDD to HDD or Pen to HDD it appears to be a problem with your drives and not KTorrent

You may want to consider running some Disk Diagnostic software to check the state of your disks which may show that you have "corrupted" data on the them and/or that the disk(s) are beginning to fail

If you haven't already done so you may want to read the following link which explains that the PCLOS 2009 repos have been "frozen" for some time - this was done in preparation of the newly released PCLOS 2010 KDE4.4 beta 1 distro (which needs a clean/fresh install)

Is there any serious H/W failure in my System

My 1 TB is 3 months old from samsung
Also received 500 GB replacement HDD from WD recently

both seams new & no prob in windows scan disk

btw my syanpic says i am updated @ KDE 3.5.10

Also downloaded PC LOS 2010 beta from Opera as mentioned earlier will clean install on another partition

Your HDD's may not be failing if they are new. Could be some corrupted data that needs to be removed (or umpteen other things  )

I had a problem with one of my disks a couple of months ago and it turned out to be the SATA cable so I bought another one (I think it was £1 for 2 cables here in the UK) and as soon as I fitted it the problem stopped.

You could open your case and make sure all your cables are plugged in correctly and haven't worked loose and whilst you are doing that you could make sure your memory stick(s) are embedded properly as they can cause problems.  If you have a spare SATA cable you could also try fitting it in place of your current one.

Okay - check your sata cables and memory sticks. (Replace sata cable(s) if you have spare handy)

Then see if the problems persist.

You could also install PCLOS 2010 beta1 into a clean fresh partition and see if any file/disk related problems occur - if they do we can then try some other things

BTW Can I ask why you had to have a replacement disk from WD - were you having problems with that one? If so, what type of problems? Were they similar to whats happening now?

ALSO: do these problems happen on both disks or just one of them?

PCLOS 2010 beta seems good but some handy features are disabled in KDE 4 as side bar in all applications is missing which i use most in KDE 3

Some of my findings:-

my broadband link seems to be clean while downloading through utorrent ( or NON KDE apps ) but seems to be pulsating through ktorrent i.e. ktorrent, kget  (all KDE) looses link very quickly but connects it very slowly. watching it & connecting manually (Stop & restart)
is the only solution i got  
Auto reconnection of kget is very very slow 5-10 min ( or even more ) required but manual ( Stop & Restart ) connects to link in millisecond

while utorrent ( or other non KDE softwares as transmission, Opera ) looses link very slowly & connects it very rapidly

any similar experience ?

2010 vs 2009 :-
My one torrent getting only one seed in 2009 but in 2010 it got 20+ seeds how come ? i enabled DHT in kTorrent 2009 & using kTorrent 2010 with default settings.


Yes i replaced my HDD because of "cruck cruck" sound.

@ menotu :- I saw your rig now Good motherboard i wish my next upgrade is similar.

I know you are now looking at other possible reasons for the slow down but let me post my experiences (this is using 2010 beta) and you are running 2009.

I did a bunch of downloading with Ktorrent, Qbittorent, and Transmission QT yesterday. I set them all up using the settings I got from plugging in my settings from this site: http://infinite-source.de/az/az-calc.html. I found that these matched the recommended settings I got in Ktorrent from clicking the recommended setting button in the network section of setting.

My informal observation was that the torrent had the most to do with the speed. But if I was to say which seemed to get the best speeds it would be Ktorrent. But that is based mostly on one real fast download 700mb in about 30 minutes. In reading some posts about Ktorrent a couple of years ago there was some speed problems with Ktorrent but they tweaked the network code and the people reporting the speed problem seemed satisfied with the solution. Nothing else I read suggested that Ktorrent is any slower than any other tool.

I am trying to download some of my torrents from PCLOS 2009 or 2010 from 5 days no progress ( 1-5 %)

But yesterday i tried same list on to uTorrent & in 5 hrs at least 25% downloading is done.

BTW i am from India on BSNL brod band  2 mbps = 256 KBps speed with 2-8 night unlimited plan

i downloas at least 60-100 GB per month as 2-3 GB per day.

But since i moved to Linux this month my download is not crosed 5 gb also trying & trying I read at least 10 solutions but didn't worked for me . . . .

SO for downloading from torrent i will prefer Windows XP + uTorrent. Will keep torrent awey from Linux 09 & 10

On 26 th of Jan ( India's republic Day ) I have decided will never use Win for any of my work my primary os will be PC LOS but Win is Win yaar nothing like it

for Linux you have to do research for any of your modification
its nice for instance.

But every one has at least time limit.

So for net & downloading ( Which is my primary work ) will use Win XP

Tried to write some of my PCLOS exp will compile nicely & pose here soon

Yes it confirmed this is 3rd day & my 70% if list is completed in uTorrent + XP

btw i really don't want to opt-out from pclos will try new download list in pclos again after completion of this list  

@ ezas : please try uTorrent on XP also. I tried both 2010-b1 & 2009 will try 2010-b2

Are you dual booting with Winxp? I guess you are download location is in NTFS drive.. rite?

Don't do that man... NTFS can be a PITA. Save your torrents in your linux partition. It will be better.
Any corruption and your download is toast.
