You can try to encrypt your torrent packets. Here in my country ISP's are all doing TRAFFIC SHAPING, crippling bit torrent downloads. The solution is to use encrypted torrent packets. This way, the speeds increase a lot.
Good luck!

Getting very less or no speed in kTorrent

It may not be ktorrent at fault - how many people are seeding the file(s) you are downloading? If you only have a few seeders it could be slow.

Also if the people seeding them don't "open" their systems fully thereby limiting the speed they upload their data at...

what is this "stalled" ?

This sometimes happens in the UK by ISPs who frown on torrent downloads (although they don't say it publicly) and they  "choke" the download causing the downloading app (ktorrent in your case) to show the "stalled" message. It could also be that ktorrent just isn't getting enough to download so stalls.

Also check your firewall

Have you looked in ktorrents settings to make sure you have it set correctly (normally set to "0" zero for unlimited download )

Edit: Another option is to find another site to begin the torrent from - some sites are much better than others and give a "true" reflection on the amount of people seeding the file

ktorrent limits itself to download what others share

if no one is sharing a file, stalled will be the only thing you have

my machine is set to share close to nothing, others do the same, i don't want to help others when nobody is helping me to download a file

the use of ktorrent is very relative to each person so you will see that some files will use the whole 2 mbits of your connections and others running at 0.01 kbps, it is noy ktorrent's fault

i have found files reported as being feeded by 10 or 20 users but when i start downloading, thew thing doesn't give 2 kbps, information in torrents can be fake sometimes

have you tested ares from windows in pclinux under wine? it works very well and as a tool sharing files works easier than other tools

ktorrent is great to download torrents but it depend on other users, ares too but it works very different

remember that ktorrent takes portions of the file form multiple machines, it can use pcs form multiple continents to recreate the file you need in your pc, this process involves other torrent clients like utorrent, bitotrrent and may others

the way i see it, it is a very complicated technology that can give weird results sometimes

under many situations you can find a determined file in a forum where is being shared and download it form rapidshare more easily that using torrent technology

Here in Ontario Canada Bell actively traffic shapes. Till recently it was 2:30pm-2am where speeds were kept around 50KB/s. If you managed to stay up late you would see speeds zoom to 700KB/s on the strike of the hour.

In the last week or so sometimes speeds would be set at 100KB/s, so I think they are still experimenting. I have encryption set but that doesn't seem to phase them. I use Transmission - nice client.

I use Transmission too, and to me, it seems the best Linux torrent client. The torrent encryption works for me though.

Thanks for quick replay this was my first post on PCLOS Forum Smiley

btw i don't think my ISP is shaping bandwidth

still i am using u & k with encryption
Some times my download list is shearing as same list in uTorrent & KTorrent on diff os

I will do one experiment will use same download list in clients u, K & transmission & post result

Some if my settings in K  & u >> download speed 0=unlimited > upload speed 1 to 15 =least (i periodically deletes upload list)

I have been using Ktorrent for years now, and always had good speeds.
Right now I am downloading (just for your case ) the same movie as you.
It's coming down at 384 KB/s from Torrent Reactor So, nothing to complain about.
BTW I am in Thailand.

Check your settings
--download path ( enough space ? )
--number of upload slots ( does make a difference here, funny but true )
--download and upload bandwidth
--DHT
--performance ( in advanced )

You find your firewall settings in PCC/security/firewall
Its OFF by default in ( my ) 2009.x
PCC is the black/blue icon in the taskbar

Edit : Movie ( 715 Mb ) downloaded in 36 minutes.
Nothing wrong with Ktorrent

Thanks Xenaflux

PCC is the black/blue icon in the taskbar (the one similar to the KDE/Start Menu button but with a spanner and screwdriver)

yes i got firewall its off here

I have another problem yesterday I see new PCLOS iso with kde 4 so i was trying to download same through first opera itself getting speed of 125+ searched download manager > Kget i got speed of 185 + wow great but after 5 mins it became "stalled" & remain i have to Stop & restart download every 5 or 10 mins its really frustrating. I switch off Kget & started downloading through opera with slow but constant speed. & also opera is never get stalled

Stalling is prob of KDE  ? software vuze, transmission, opera never get stalled
Ktorrent, Kget, copying through pen drive always get stalled & most of time manual restart required (for kget always)

@ Xenaflux

--download path ( enough space ? ) > yes 13 gb space available
--number of upload slots ( does make a difference here, funny but true ) > old 2 changed to 100
--download and upload bandwidth > How much i should for  2 mbits = 256 KB connection.
my recent settings are 0 = max Download speed  1 = least upload speed

--DHT > yes on
--performance ( in advanced ) > default low memory now changed to high

Number of upload slots  : 10
download and upload bandwidth  : for 256KB set to 400  ///  upload : what your ISP told you

Download speed : 0   upload speed : 0  ( no reason to limit )

Default memory : play around with ...mine is on medium

You may want to try downloading the iso from a different location - try a site closer to you at first and if that one is slower try another... (if the site you are downloading from is very busy it can affect your speed dramatically)

copying through pen drive

I think copying direct to your pen drive will also affect the speed - try downloading to your hard drive and then copying over to your pen drive

No harm in trying downloading from a different server location  Wink

Can you explain this a little more for us - what do you mean when you say  "transfer from Flash drive also experienced stalled ? "

Has your flash drive had any problems in the past ?
