subpixel smoothing in openoffice and firefox

I have installed PCLinuxOS 2010 beta.Everything works out of box and I am loving it.I have only one issue that fonts in openoffice and firefox are not looking good. I have enabled anti-aliasing which takes good care for the rest of the native KDE applications.
I have tried taking hints from this link
http://linuxcrunch.com/content/font-smoothing-opensuse-112
which worked out well on my friends Opensuse installation, but it didnt work. I also had a look at
http://www.mib.pianetalinux.org/mib/quick/basic-rpms/mib-rpms/568-subpixel-hinting-for-gtk-and-qt-apps
but no help..
Any suggestions?

If you want freetype2 with subpixel-hinting you need to add
special
to the synaptic section next to
main updates nonfree kde4
then press reload to get a current file listing and finally upgrade the libfreetype6 package.
