2009.2 updated fresh install on r60 thinkpad - Fn +home/end won't change brightness of lcd. R52 doesn't have this problem. R60 doesn't have this problem with some less preferred distros.--- solved by installing 2010 beta.

Try changing the Keyboard Layout in KCC > Regional & Accessibility. On my R61 I had to choose a different Keyboard Model from the drop down menu. One of them should work.
