I'll try my luck in this forum. Got no response in the software forum.

My DVD writer is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-116D, recognised as such by the system.

Drakbackup tells me the drive is not writeable and it sees it as a ROM device.

  Using K3b to write a 1.1MB file to a blank DVD+R:

  -  Writing successfully completed
  -  Verifying data
  -  Overall progress stuck at 50%
  -  Verifying track 0 stuck at 0%
  -  No disc activity

I gave up and cancelled after 15 minutes. The disc was written.

I was able to write a smaller amount of initial data to a CD-R as multisession yesterday using K3b.

Trying to make a live CD failed. After an hour I was still looking at lines of meaningless figures in a konsol.

  Am I doing something wrong?

Try installing brasero from the repos and use it.  See if you have similar problems.

This was solved by starting MakeLiveCD from the main menu rather than from the konsole.

I used K3b to put the .ISO on a disc.

  Thanks for your interest.
