Hi,

I had my network all showing in kde3.  Updated to kde4 and don't have any shares any more showing in either dolphin or konqueror.  I saw some other threads around from October with people having the same problem - but no answer.

So I try again.

Edit:  If I go to "Access Windows shared drives and directories, I can see all machines on the lan.  THe modem is also accessed through the lan and I have internet.  I just can't see any machines, shared files or folders in a file manager...

Any suggestions welcome.

Another edit:  Going to be gone until Monday - so lack of reaction is not lack of interest.

When you were installing KDE4 did you see a warning message stating that you need to install  the package mandi? This package seems to cause network problems
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,67773.0.html. If your problem is the same then my solution was to reinstall. It was quicker and easier to do this.

Thank you for the reply.  No, I didn't get that warning - so I guess your tip won't apply.  It caused me to fiddle around with the firewall settings - to no avail...

In Dolphin I get the following error message at the bottom of the program:

Code:
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_smb'.
